Pilot Rock is one of the striking geologic features in southern Oregon's Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, where ecoregions of the Cascade Mountains, eastern Cascade slopes and Klamath converge.
Pacific Forest Trust used $950,000 in two program related investment loans to acquire 1,300 acres of private land within the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. The monument is a unique Oregon treasure with its landscape of exceptional geologic complexity and reservoirs of biodiversity. The Siskiyous bring together plants and animals from the high deserts of the Great Basin with species from the wet forests of the Pacific Coast. Over 200 threatened, endangered, and "bureau-listed" species live in the monument. Lush wildflower meadows are alive with a diversity of butterflies nearly unsurpassed in the United States. It contains several miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, major portions of the headwaters of the Rogue Wild and Scenic River, and areas of old-growth forest. Photo credit: Pacific Forest Trust
