Documentaries help families discover power of their stories

Meyer Memorial Trust granted $10,250 to NW Documentary Arts & Media in 2008 to expand their documentary workshop programs. Pictured here are participants in the “Tell Your Story” workshop that helps families document and present their own family histories.  According to NW Documentary, the grant was “transformative” for the organization, allowing it to increase workshop offerings eightfold, increase student access to professional equipment, and provide a community space for shared learning. BBecause its new course offerings span different skill levels, it has seen a dramatic increase in new participants with no previous film experience. Expanding its educational programming through this MMT grant paved the way for the organization's first National Endowment for the Arts grant. Photo credit: NW Documentary Arts & Media
