40 Vernonia homes rise above flood stage

In December 2007, the worst flooding on record inundated more than 800 homes in Vernonia and rural Columbia County. Forty percent of Vernonia’s 800 homes were flooded with as much as eight feet of water. More than 200 homes were so damaged that ordinances required they be elevated or demolished. Craft3 used a $400,000 Program Related Investment loan guarantee from Meyer Memorial Trust to lend $400,000 to Community Action Team for construction loans, allowing more than 40 homeowners to elevate their homes using insurance, state and FEMA funds.
