What I do at MMT:

On the Accounting side, the team works to keep track of all the money that goes in or out of the Trust - grant checks, web hosting, payroll, etc. In Finance, the goal is to maximize the return on our investments so that we have more money available to give. I am particularly excited about Mission-Related Investing, and researching ways to increase our investments in Oregon and Southwest Washington in addition to our grants.
What was your life experience before you came to MMT and how does it contribute to your work at MMT?

I was a History major in college, but my education took a turn for the practical when I decided to study Accounting.  After several years in Investment Research and a lot of post-Baccalaureate study, I am delighted to find myself using my accounting education, my finance experience, and even my liberal arts education here at MMT on a daily basis.

What high school did you attend?

Lake Washington High School, outside of Seattle in Kirkland, Washington.

When you graduated from high school, what did you want to be?
You know, I didn't really have a clear idea. I liked writing, politics, and working for social change - but I didn't put those together into a cohesive plan.
How long did you follow that plan, where did it lead?
I am still following that plan! Actually, it was raising my children that provided real motivation for me. When they were little, I went back to college, worked with a great group of people to start a non-profit, traveled around Europe, and got my first good job. They deserve all the credit for the fun I'm having today.
If I met my high school self, I would say:
Stop doing what you think everyone else thinks you should do, and figure it out for yourself. And get some sleep!
What were your favorite extracurricular activities in high school? What did you do for fun?
I was Captain of the Gymnastics Team, Vice President of our Junior State chapter (a non-partisan political / debate club), and Editorial Editor of the school paper. For fun???? Let's see, I remember homework parties for my Honors Physics class, and organizing a protest in support of the Chinese students demonstrating for democracy in Tiananmen Square. I think I was a little bit earnest.
What was your favorite music to listen to?
I was a huge Bob Dylan fan, and of course I loved the music of the eighties, especially REM and The Cure.
Complete this sentence: In high school, among my classmates I was most likely to...
I was voted most likely to win a Nobel Prize. Wish me luck with that.
You don't know me unless you know this about me:
I am a totally cynical hopeless romantic.
