What I do at MMT:

I lead the Program Team and coordinate work with other MMT departments. I also serve as a program officer, which allows me to learn more about issues facing communities and to investigate potential opportunities for positive impact.
What was your life experience before you came to MMT and how does it contribute to your work at MMT?

I have worked in Oregon’s nonprofit and public sectors for the past 22 years.  Prior to joining MMT in 2007, I served as a nonprofit executive director, worked in higher education administration, and served as a consultant, trainer, and adjunct college faculty.  I'm also an experienced provider of direct services for children and families.

I have led program and grants development in both public and nonprofit settings and in a broad range of program areas including child abuse response, higher education, workforce development, alternative education, health care, early childhood education, technology, civic engagement and the arts, among others.  I served appointments on the Oregon Children’s Justice Act Task Force and the Oregon Attorney General’s Victims of Crime Act Advisory Committee.

I hold a baccalaureate in human services from the University of Oregon and a Master's of Public Administration from Lewis and Clark College.

What high school did you attend?

A school in southern Idaho.

When you graduated from high school, what did you want to be?
I can't claim to have had a specific goal of what I wanted to "be." I thought I wanted to go into social services, but was also interested in business.
How long did you follow that plan, where did it lead?
I never really had a plan per se, but experimented in both social services and business, decided I favored social services, and then eventually figured out that they are not mutually exclusive. All said, to date the journey has led me to the Trust, of course. . . by way of working directly with children and families; graduate school; leading program development and securing funds for a variety of human service, education, and workforce development initiatives; and establishing and leading a nonprofit that provides a multidisciplinary, collaborative public-private response to concerns of child abuse.
If I met my high school self, I would say:
Most things in life do not have to be permanent; if you choose a path and discover it's not taking you where you thought it would or isn't giving you what you need, there is nothing wrong with trying another path. In fact, it almost always ends up being a good thing!
What were your favorite extracurricular activities in high school? What did you do for fun?
Wait. . .is my mother going to see this???? :-)
What was your favorite music to listen to?
I leaned toward the REAL new wave - Elvis Costello, The Police, Talking Heads, Duran Duran, INXS, The Cars. Prince, REM, and The Beatles were also favs, along with a little Scorpions and Def Leppard thrown in for some edge.
Complete this sentence: In high school, among my classmates I was most likely to...
Get reprimanded for laughing too much and disrupting class. I always found this a little confusing - should one really get in trouble for being joyful?
You don't know me unless you know this about me:
But if I told you, those of you who don't know me would then know without really knowing me. The universe would be off balance!
