Award Statistics for Fiscal Year 2011

We are often asked how many applications we receive, how many are approved, and what the awards were for. So, to supplement Marie's monthly award announcements, I thought I'd provide some statistics on grants made through our Responsive Grants and Grassroots Grants programs in MMT's most recent fiscal year (April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011).
TWST in Cottage Grove

We are in Cottage Grove today, a community of about 10,000 residents, meeting in the City’s fabulous library. The building also houses the Chamber of Commerce, a therapy pool, the Senior Center and a Business Resource Center. Attendees represented a range of services
TWST Day 4 - Sutherlin

This afternoon at the C. Giles Hunt Memorial Library in Sutherlin, seven folks from Elkton, Oakland, and Roseburg asked me some great questions about Meyer Memorial Trust’s grant application and decision making process. We talked about how local support for a project is really important.

from MMT and to collect information about the needs of nonprofits and

We launched the final day of our TWST with a delightful lunch at Salem’s Wild Pear Restaurant. Lunch was delicious and pretty too. To top off our meal, Sally offered me my first taste of “real licorice”.

After a brief rest at our hotel, we set out for our evening TWST meeting at the James Ramsey III Community Center hosted by the Salem/Keizer Coalition for Equality (SKCE). En route to the event, we crossed paths with the wildly famous and not oft’ seen, Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

On Wednesday, we pointed Sally’s trusty green machine due south and headed toward Woodburn, the third stop on our TWST. The ride was quick and uneventful; two good qualities for a drive in my opinion.

MMT Quarterly Awards Report - FY2011 Q1 (April-June 2010)

In the first quarter of our current fiscal year (April 1 through June 30, 2010), Meyer Memorial Trust made 75 grants and 2 program related investment loans totaling approximately $5.9 million. These awards are listed in our Awards Database and are announced monthly on our website.
TWST in Maupin

Maupin is the last stop on our Central Columbia Gorge TWST of Wasco and
Sherman Counties. About an hour drive south of The Dalles, located
along both sides of the Deschutes River on Highway 197, this community
of 490 residents strong has reinvented itself over the last few years.
TWST in Malheur County

This group made us earn our keep by asking a lot of good questions
about MMT, foundations and how to demonstrate community support for
their projects and organizations. While the community has been
struggling in the current economy, a lot of great things are happening
among the area’s nonprofit and government partners, such as more and
stronger collaborations, establishment of a new relief nursery for
at-risk families with young children
TWST in Harney County – Burns

While the county may not have a large number of residents compared to
urban areas, residents must cover vast distances and rely on a core
group of dedicated leaders to keep services and nonprofits running.
But it’s worth the effort. When asked to share some of the things they
loved about living in Harney County, one participant wrote:“The
glitter of frozen air on frozen sunny January afternoons, and the smell
of air on a blistering August sage landscape. We live in Paradise!”
Two-Way Street Tour Heads to Southeast Oregon

TWST in Central Coast – Florence & Newport

Over 20 folks came representing nonprofits in Florence, Bandon,
Mapleton, Westlake, and Charleston. There were three broad themes in
our discussion – hardships brought about by the recession, protecting
the environment, and programs for youth and families.
