At our September program meeeting, MMT trustees awarded 19 grants for more than $3.1 million dollars to nonprofit organizations across Oregon.

Eight of the awards worth nearly $1.8 million went to arts and culture organizations in Portland (7) and Eugene (1). We have been grouping consideration of support to Portland area large budget arts organizations since 2009 to help them achieve financial stability (read more about this practice here).

Other large grants went to affordable housing projects in St. Helens and Portland, to equip a new higher education campus in Prineville, to support programs that employ people with disabilities in Baker City and Medford, to open a new health center serving uninsured low-income residents of east Multhomah County and to help Portland's African American community develop solutions to issues it faces.

These grants bring the total number of awards since MMT began operating in 1982 to 6,572 awards totaling nearly $539.6 million.

Calapooia Watershed Council, Brownsville
Awarded: $48,427
To plan restoration of Cox Creek/Albany Oxbow Lakes area in North Albany
 
Cascade Pacific Resource Conservation and Development, Tangent
Awarded: $14,949
To develop a model for conserving wildlife habitat on Willamette Valley vegetable farms
 
Community Action Team, St. Helens
Awarded: $200,000
To help rebuild a 26-unit affordable housing complex in Vernonia that was damaged by the 2007 flood
 
Community Partners for Affordable Housing, Portland
Awarded: $155,000
To develop vacant space in the Hillsdale watershed for nonprofit and community use
 
Crook County, Prineville
Awarded: $200,000
For equipment for the Crook County Open Campus, a new higher education facility/program for this rural county
 
Eugene Symphony Association, Eugene
Awarded: $100,000
To expand the symphony's education and community engagement program
 
Foundation Center, New York
Awarded: $20,000
For general support to collect and disseminate information about private philanthropy
 
Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth, Eugene
Awarded: $85,000
For general operating support to prevent childhood obesity and related diseases
 
Living Opportunities, Inc., Medford
Awarded: $75,000
To expand a community-based employment program for people with disabilities in Jackson County
 
Oregon Ballet Theatre, Portland
Awarded: $120,000
To help support Oregon Ballet Theatre's 2011-12 and 2012-2013 seasons
 
Oregon Shakespeare Festival Association, Ashland
Awarded: $100,000
To provide core support following a challenging summer season
 
Oregon Symphony Association, Portland
Awarded: $450,000
To help support two seasons of symphonic music concerts
 
Portland Art Museum, Portland
Awarded: $420,000
To support the museum through 2013
 
Portland Center Stage, Portland
Awarded: $300,000
To help support the theater company during 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons
 
Portland Opera Association, Portland
Awarded: $300,000
To help support performances during 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons
 
Step Forward Activities, Baker City
Awarded: $150,000
To expand the organization's facility to produce dog waste disposal bags, providing employment for adults with developmental disabilities
 
Urban League of Portland, Portland
Awarded: $150,000
To support solution-focused dialogue and action on issues facing Portland's African American Community
 
Wallace Medical Concern, Gresham
Awarded: $150,000
To open a new primary health care clinic for low-income residents in east Multnomah County
 
World Forestry Center, Portland
Awarded: $100,000
To renovate and upgrade meeting spaces used by community groups
