Looking ahead at MMT

It's difficult to overstate the changes Meyer Memorial Trust has been through over the past half decade. Five years ago, we were almost exclusively a general purpose responsive foundation, with nearly all our giving in response to proposals submitted from organizations across Oregon and Clark County, Washington. The field of philanthropy, however, has learned much  READ MORE

There is so much news to report this week I find myself without space or time to make any weather-phenomena- or plants-in-bloom- or little-white-pet- or backyard-chicken- or urban-folklore- related opening commentary. :(

  • First, our trustees made a whole lot of grant awards this month, including 61 Grassroots Grants for more than $1 million, which was probably a record!
  • Second, you simply must read Program Officer Sally Yee's account of her Two-Way Street Tour gatherings in southern Lane and northern Douglas counties, with stops in Springfield, Oakridge, Cottage Grove, Drain and Sutherlin. She's definitely found her blogging voice!
  • Third, there's someone I'd like you to meet. Mike Phillips is the new Communications & Learning Associate, working with me on the website and a multitude of other projects. He made it all the way through the interview process for other positions here at MMT and when I saw evidence of his mad skillz, I nabbed him for the C&L department. He is already making my life better and teaching me things. I am so happy!
  • Speaking of a multitude of other projects, we've set up a forum on our website where we can post updates and answer questions about the community building project that emerged from ideas4oregon. It's making good progress and we want you to be able to follow it so you can jump right in when it is ready for jumpers. You can sign up to receive automatic notices when new content appears.

I want to leave you something more than just new items as we head into a long holiday weekend... perhaps many of you will be visiting a farmer's market sometime over the next few days, enjoying some of those incredibly delicious Oregon strawberries. While you're there, keep this little video in your mind. I find it so awe-inspiring in a "where there's a will there's a way" context. After watching this, it's hard to believe we can't do anything we set our minds to. And I do mean that literally. Watch what I mean (uses Flash) : http://www.wimp.com/vegetablemarket/
