At the May program meeting, MMT trustees made 19 awards for more than $2.4 million in three funding programs: Responsive Grants, Habitat for Humanity and Willamette River Initiative.

Responsive Grants

Responsive Grants accounted for about $2.26 million, with awards supporting programs in workforce training, higher education, renewable energy, early childhood, parenting education, emergency food distribution, safety net health care, children's health care, science education, domestic violence and a variety of grantmaking support programs. Awards included:

Blue Mountain Community College, Pendleton
Awarded:  $400,000
To build the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center in Hermiston to support workforce training and college and graduate-level degree programs
 
Grantmakers for Education, Portland
Awarded:  $3,000
For annual membership
 
Grantmakers of Oregon and SW Washington, Portland

Awarded:  $30,000
For in-kind support for this organization's efforts to promote effective philanthropy
 
Grants Managers Network, Washington

Awarded:  $2,500
For annual membership
 
Guidestar USA, Williamsburg
Awarded:  $500
For annual operating support
 
Lake County Resources Initiative, Lakeview
Awarded:  $50,000
To implement Lake County's strategy to become Oregon's most renewable energy county
 
Mt. Hood Community College, Gresham
Awarded:  $250,000
To help build a new early childhood center on campus
 
Oregon Community Foundation, Portland
Awarded:  $300,000
To support the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative, establishing regional parenting education hubs across Oregon
 
Oregon Food Bank, Portland
Awarded:  $300,000
To remodel a warehouse to support emergency food distribution, advocacy and nutrition and gardening education in response to growing needs in Washington County
 
Rinehart Clinic, Wheeler
Awarded:  $95,000
To support fund development and volunteer management for this safety net health clinic
 
Sanford Health Foundation, Klamath Falls
Awarded:  $250,000
To address the shortage of pediatric care in Klamath Falls by establishing a new clinic and operating model
 
Science Factory, Eugene
Awarded:  $49,000
To upgrade and convert the organization's planetarium into a multifunctional educational space
 
Volunteers of America of Oregon, Portland
Awarded:  $150,000
For operating support for Home Free, a program that supports children and women escaping domestic violence
 
Yamhill Community Action Partnership, McMinnville

Awarded:  $250,000
To construct a new facility to house an expanded food bank and client services center
 
YWCA of Greater Portland, Portland
Awarded:  $125,000
For general operating support

Habitat for Humanity

As part of our investment in affordable housing, MMT has supported Habitat for Humanity's efforts to make home ownership affordable for very low income families. For this fiscal year, $730,000 in awards went to eight Habitat affiliates:

Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley, Salem
Awarded:  $150,000
To acquire land for future affordable homes
 
Habitat for Humanity, Rogue Valley, Medford
Awarded:  $60,000
To support the first phase of development of a subdivision of 10 affordable homes
 
Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat for Humanity, Junction City

Awarded:  $80,000
To purchase and renovate foreclosure properties for Habitat families, in conjunction with federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program Funds
 
Lebanon Area Habitat for Humanity, Lebanon
Awarded:  $80,000
To match funding from HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program to purchase and renovate 4 foreclosed homes to provide affordable homes for Habitat-qualified families
 
Mt. Angel-Silverton-Woodburn Habitat for Humanity, Inc., Mt. Angel

Awarded:  $30,000
For a two-family attached-housing unit in Canby
 
Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity, Newberg
Awarded:  $40,000
For a sustainably built affordable duplex for two families
 
Oregon Trail Habitat for Humanity, Hermiston
Awarded:  $20,000
To help build a house in Umatilla for a low-income family
 
Sisters Habitat for Humanity, Sisters
Awarded:  $135,000 grant and $135,000 program related investment loan
To purchase bank-owned property creating a long-term inventory of land for building affordable homes

Willamette River Initiative

Nearly $596,000 in awards went to support seven watershed councils' participation in the Initiative's model watershed program and for landowner outreach and appraisal.

Awarded:  $100,000
For continued support of the North Santiam, South Santiam and Calapooia Watershed Councils in the Willamette River Initiative's Model Watershed Program
 
Cascade Pacific Resource Conservation and Development, Tangent
Awarded:  $100,000
To support Luckiamute River Watershed Council's participation in the Willamette River Initiative's Model Watershed Program
 
Greenbelt Land Trust, Inc., Corvallis
Awarded:  $65,670
For Middle Willamette landowner outreach and appraisal support
 
Long Tom Watershed Council, Eugene

Awarded:  $100,000
For continued support of the Willamette River Initiative's Model Watershed Program
 
Marys River Watershed Council, Corvallis
Awarded:  $100,000
For participation in the Willamette River Initiative's Model Watershed Program
 
Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council, Lowell

Awarded:  $100,000
For continued support of the Willamette River Initiative's Model Watershed Program
 
Tides, Inc., San Francisco
Awarded:  $30,000
For in-kind support for the Willamette River Initiative
