July 2012 Awards Listed
In July Meyer Memorial Trust made 25 grants for more than $2 million and a loan guarantee of $300,000 for a variety of programs and services across Oregon. We have now handed out nearly $568 million since we began operating in 1982.
July's largest award was a combined grant ($150,000) and loan guarantee ($300,000) to the Freshwater Trust to support its "ecosystem services" (e.g., shade-reducing streamside trees) program that quantifies the temperature reduction value generated by riparian restoration as credits that can be traded or purchased by entities facing offeset or mitigation requirements. Credits are determined by Steambank, Freshwater Trust's patented web-based software platform developed with significant investments from Meyer Memorial Trust.
Several grants went for health services, including transitioning from clinical practice to medical home models for patients with complex needs in Medford, Roseburg and Clackamas County.
A number of the grants will help strengthen services in rural Oregon, including extending Oregon's 211 system statewide (dialing 211 anywhere in Oregon will connect callers with information about critical health and human services in their communities), expanding a community center in Burns, helping construct a new Head Start facility in Hermiston, expanding mental health services in Cottage Grove, growing the fundraising ability of a professional orchestra in Newport and riparian restoration projects along Willamette River tributaries.
