    Geographic Scope and Other Musings

Great report but highly recommend that it would have been better to share demographic data for greater Portland region (Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Yamhill and Clark counties). Broad cross-section of data and we should be encourage regional as well as local look at this.

Additionally, there is a huge need in terms of cross-cultural mentoring by helping key identified emerging leaders to learn how to navigate and weave along cross-cultural lines to build broader community to build deep relationship for a better community that recognizes key values.

Need to better match private higher education and and OUS institutions to deal with these issues and break down silos. Publish data on who is doing what and award and recognize institutions that are doing well and provide leadership and training to those who are not.

Finally, need to get CEO level involvement in regional business community to bring financial and human resources to bear on this issue.

    Education and Entrepreneurship

The lack of education and entrepreneurship, in the communities of color
is at a all time low.

    Why!

    1. Most people of color fail to get the right education

    2. They dropout of school before graduating

    The reason:

    1. Low income, to no income

    2. Children lack of eating breakfast before goin to school

    3. Parents on drugs

    4. Bad Game activeties

    5. They are foster kids

    6. Lack the ability to read and write

I have long wanted to work in

I have long wanted to work in a position such as this. I have been on the receiving end of philanthropy as a former Director for a couple of different nonprofits. Currently, I am the chair for a nonprofit promoting women's role in leadership for peace called Women's Federation for World Peace. We are planning an event in March to bring together women from diverse backgrounds to cross a symbolic bridge of peace and reconciliation. I would love to invite you.

Please contact me at my email site.

    Aha!

Thanks for the insight, Jill. The learning you're doing in your work sounds like fun.

    Thanks for your good work

    Barb,
Thanks for your great work helping the Non-Profit Association of Oregon get established. I think this was a terrific investment that should pay dividends to a whole host of non-profits for years to come.

The Sitka Center also benefited from the "Our Ocean" work that you did and we hope to see the Marine Reserve/Marine Protected Area program succeed and expand in the future.

Best wishes in your new endeavors!

    And the winner is.......

Suspending! I had to go with that because two people suggested it (and one used it in a sentence...a very poetic sentence, I might add!) I seriously loved all the nominations, you are all winners in my eyes.

Thanks for the great participation, you made my month!

    More fish verb suggestions

Thanks so much for the great suggestions and here are a couple more wonderful contributions that arrived via email:

    From Pendleton:
Marie, thanks for your interesting and entertaining MMT News Alerts. I always enjoy reading them, and I was intrigued by your call for help with finding the right verb to describe the motionless fish. My offering for you to consider is "suspending," as in "The fish are quietly suspending in clear water."
    Cheers,
    Susan Plass

    ++++++++++

    From Grants Pass:

As for the fishies - how about stationary water treading? Or motionless treading?
OR you could look to blimp technology for the answer. Blimps have a bladder of air inside the container of helium. Air is heavier than helium so to go up--air is released, to come down air is taken in. Perhaps fish have a similar mechanism with air. The container is called a ballonets and it's pronunciation is almost like Balloon but with a naze on the end. Long A. As in French pronunciation. Thus - maybe the fishies are ballonazing.  (if we wrote balloneting no one would "get it")!

    Awesome writeup!

That was really awesome info. I tend not to follow our tech history as well as you do so this made for great reading. RIP indeed. It is funny how the unassuming guys are so anonymous and unknown and the in-your-face self-promoters are the ones most people know.

    Grant Inquiry

I am a a member of SAMBA, a parent organization that supports the band program at our local high school. This year, the Sunset High School Band was invited to represent Oregon at the All-American Musical Festival in Orlando, Florida. Our total estimated expenditures (competition fees, transportation and shipping costs, hotel, airfare, etc.) total $108,700, of which we have raised nearly half. Students band members will be asked to fund their trip, and as a result, not all members are able to afford this. Here is my question, does the Meyer Foundation support endeavors to help offset costs of extra-curricular activities related to the arts?

Thank you for your time in reviewing this inquiry.

    Nurture Mind, Body and Soul

Marie - We all need time to re-connect with our essence - whether creatively, bodily, or to explore new intellectual fields - in an effort to make this journey meaningful. Thanks for the information on visual presentation. Enjoy your time off and your views through the hanging begonias!

    You Go Girl!

Wow! What an inspiring blog! I think it is fantastic for MMT to offer such a wonderful opportunity to the team. I can't wait to hear all about your fitness/health journey. That's something I could certainly use some ideas on. :) I am also excited to hear about your learnings on infographics. I'm going to look into the books you suggested. Enjoy your rejuvenation time and good luck with the quilt show!

    Now You're Talkin'

I love your articles and in particular, this one! Maybe we are kindred, at least in spirit. Your plan inspires me.... I did something similar a few months ago and it really made me set a new direction for my personal life. I completed the Eugene half marathon and realized that fitness can be fun and exciting... and at the very least personally rewarding... Good luck, enjoy yourself and take time to chop vegetables!

    Marie,
Good for you! I just returned from 5 days camping at the coast and in the redwoods. The stars were fabulous. It was refreshing to get away and yet stimulating to return.

    excellent news!

I'm so thrilled to see this project taking off with two great local companies. I have some familiarity with FMYI, and I love their work and enthusiasm. I can't wait to see all of the awesome that comes! Kudos, MMT!

    Thanks

We've been having conversations in our organization about how to describe our work to engage more of the community, both online and offline. Your article gave us the words. Thank you. We have a community building campaign that includes an online strategy and a community-based strategy. Whew.

    And we have a winner!

Actually, two winners. Well, I'd say we're all winners here... We've selected Context Partners (contextpartners.com) and FMYI (fmyi.com) to work together to launch and lead this project. They have complementary skills and strengths.

Context Partners has nine staff members in Portland, representing more than 50 years of collective experience all aspects of this project, including project management, online and offline community building, supervising website design and engineering, marketing and outreach and planning for fiscal sustainability. CP has direct experience in online community management and launching a public online platform and has worked with diverse clients across the United States and in other countries.

FMYI (for my innovation) is a Portland software company established in 2004 to create "social networks to get things done" that also has the capacity to build a knowledge base of shared resources. It ranks 13th among Oregon's 100 fastest growing private companies, is a certified B corporation and is registered as a State of Oregon Minority Business Enterprise with 15 full time employees. It has already developed an online platform with many of the features our project needs that is used by clients ranging from Nike to Right Brain Initiative. FMYI will open source its platform so it can be adapted for this effort.

We can't wait to get started!
