The Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV)

The Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV) in Corvallis used a $100,000 grant from Meyer Memorial Trust to build the Advocacy Center, a community space for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The Advocacy Center is co-located with a new low income housing development with ten units reserved for domestic violence survivors. CARDV provides supportive services to residents in permanant housing. The Advocacy Center is also a training center to promote education and prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault. Meyer Memorial Trust awarded 19 grants for more than $2.8 million to tax
exempt organizations in Oregon and Clark County, Washington, at our May
program meeting. The meeting was held in Pendleton so trustees and
staff could meet with community members and visit prior grantees
What type of fiscal sponsor arrangements are not allowed?

Organizations that
are not recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS are not eligible to apply to Meyer
Memorial Trust. Such organizations cannot ask another, unrelated organization
(especially if the missions are not aligned) to be its fiscal sponsor. This is
considered “borrowing” another organization’s tax-exempt status and is not
allowed.
