Notes from a sabbatical
This is my first week back in the office after a four-week sabbatical and a two-week vacation. Take a look at the infographic I made to see how it went and read more about the big goals. I'm offering up my reflections and the lessons I learned.
Taking a break from keeping up
Tomorrow I embark on something I'm so excited about that I simply must share it with you.
Earlier this year, MMT began offering long time staff members month-long sabbaticals to provide opportunities to rejuvenate, reflect and pursue life- and/or career-enhancing activities that are not feasible within the demands of our regular work. Those of us who have been here more than seven years are eligible. I've been at MMT for 15 years (!?) and mine starts tomorrow.
Leaving tracks
I come across a wide variety of fascinating things in my job, increasingly through twitter and other forms of social media. I thought I would share a couple of recent discoveries.

Three Words for 2010
A few years ago, community and social media leader Chris Brogan developed a meme to help him set goals for the new year:
What do we know about recovery of giving after recessions/depressions?
The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University has just published a report in GivingUSA Spotlight analyzing its research on charitable giving after The Great Depression and more recent economic recessions, including the one nonprofit organizations are facing now.
What's abuzz in the nonprofit world?
Seth Godin -- well known in social media and marketing, often associated with the concept of "permission marketing" and well known author and speaker in those circles -- has set off a vigorous and sometimes heated discussion about how well (or not) nonprofits are doing in adapting to change.
