Before even cracking a page, I was pretty sure I knew the answer to the question posed in the title of the new report, The Public Funding Crisis: Can Philanthropy Shoulder the Burden? Nevertheless, I thought it might contain some nuggets of wisdom. Turns out, it did–
Tales from the double-wide: reflections of a new program officer
With almost a year under my belt as a program officer, I thought it was about time to share a few thoughts on my experience thus far. Sitting on the other side of the fundraising table for so many years, foundations had always seemed a little mysterious and slightly scary to approach. Now that I work for one, I figure it's my responsibility to help folks peek behind the curtain and understand them a bit better.
TWST Stories from Stayton
We launched the final day of our TWST with a delightful lunch at Salem’s Wild Pear Restaurant. Lunch was delicious and pretty too. To top off our meal, Sally offered me my first taste of “real licorice”.
TWST Connects in Salem
After a brief rest at our hotel, we set out for our evening TWST meeting at the James Ramsey III Community Center hosted by the Salem/Keizer Coalition for Equality (SKCE). En route to the event, we crossed paths with the wildly famous and not oft’ seen, Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
TWST Tour Humbled in Woodburn
On Wednesday, we pointed Sally’s trusty green machine due south and headed toward Woodburn, the third stop on our TWST. The ride was quick and uneventful; two good qualities for a drive in my opinion.
TWST Hits Oregon City
We hit the road again on Wednesday for our second TWST stop in historic Oregon City. Armed with my newly repaired smart phone (and its GPS), I was determined to regain a bit of Sally’s confidence in my navigation skills.
